What if I told you that there’s more than just great beaches on the Mid North Coast? The Mid North Coast on NSW has for decades been a popular tourist and camping destination. With beautiful beaches, great fishing a tourist attractions people in their hundreds of thousands have flocked there over the years. It’s the ideal place to take the family for a well earned vacation.
But what about the areas to the west?
Clarence Gorge is one of the best kept secrets in NSW. This magnificent sprawling property on a pristine Clarence river up the road from Copmanhurst is some of the sweetest camping in the country along with some of Australia’s best bass fishing. Fronting 10km of the Clarence, there is miles of camping on this 8300-acre property that has for over 100 years been in the Winters family.
The property is still a working cattle station with plenty of friendly bovines grazing contently among the campers. The camping is truly relaxed but one of the big attractions is the fishing. Clarence Gorge offers catch and release bass fishing and possibly the best chance of a trophy fish you’ll find. Accessible by kayak, canoe or tinny, the upper reaches of the Clarence draw many of fishing’s famous faces in search of a personal best bass.
For the family there is swimming, bushwalking, waterfalls and lots of native animals to see. You can camp as simply as a swag or tow your MDC camper trailer or hybrid caravan in with ease and there’s lots of level places to set up. Fees are reasonable and it’s a good idea to book and let them know you’re coming as it’s a working cattle station and the homestead isn’t always attended. For groups you couldn’t ask for more, there are some very large camp areas which are ideal for large groups such as fishing, 4wd and social clubs.
Do yourself a favour and check out one of the most spectacular places on the Mid North.
